I made an animated GIF of a 10-page pitch deck to share on Twitter. The frame delay control is perfect — just right for a quick preview.

Works really well for simple document previews. GIF colour depth is 256 which means photo-heavy pages look a bit washed out, but for text docs it's great.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Can I create an animated GIF from a PDF?+
Yes. When you upload a multi-page PDF and select 'Animated GIF' mode, each page becomes one animation frame. You can set the frame delay (how long each page is displayed) and the loop count. This is perfect for creating document previews, pitch deck slideshows and presentation previews for social media.
Why do my GIF images look washed out or have fewer colors?+
GIF is limited to a 256-color palette per frame, compared to 16.7 million colors in JPG/PNG. This means photo-heavy PDFs with gradients and complex imagery will look less vibrant as GIFs. For text-heavy documents and simple graphics with flat colors, GIF quality is excellent. For photographic content, use JPG or PNG instead.
What is frame delay in animated GIF conversion?+
Frame delay is how long each frame (page) is displayed in the animated GIF before advancing to the next. Common values: 500ms (0.5 seconds) for fast flipping, 1500ms (1.5 seconds) for readable slide previews, 3000ms (3 seconds) for content meant to be read. Lower delay = faster animation.
What is loop count?+
Loop count determines how many times the animation plays. '0' means infinite loop (plays forever). '1' means the animation plays once and stops. Any other number plays that many times. For social media sharing, infinite loop (0) is usually preferred.
What is the maximum file size for GIF?+
PDFs up to 50MB with up to 30 pages are supported for GIF conversion. Note that animated GIFs from many pages can themselves be large files — a 20-page PDF at 150 DPI as animated GIF can be 10–40 MB. Use a lower DPI to reduce output file size.
Which platforms support GIF natively?+
GIF is supported natively on Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram (as video), Slack, Discord, Microsoft Teams, WhatsApp (Web), most email clients and all web browsers. It's the most universally supported animation format across digital platforms.
Should I use GIF or WebP for animated images?+
WebP supports animation and produces much smaller files than GIF with better color quality. If your target platform supports animated WebP (most modern browsers and some messaging apps do), it's superior. However, GIF has near-universal support including older systems, email clients, and social platforms, making it the safer choice for broad compatibility.
Is my PDF private when converting to GIF?+
Yes. All processing runs entirely in your browser. Your PDF is never uploaded to any server. Everything stays on your device.

📚 Complete Guide to PDF to GIF Conversion

What Is GIF and When Should You Convert PDF to GIF?

GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) was created in 1987 by CompuServe. Despite its age, GIF remains one of the most universally supported image formats — especially for animated images. Converting PDF to GIF is useful when you need a quick preview or animation that works everywhere without special software.

GIF Limitations You Should Know

GIF is limited to a 256-color palette per frame. This is excellent for text documents, diagrams and flat-color graphics, but produces noticeable quality degradation in photographs and gradients. For photo-heavy PDFs, use JPG or PNG instead. GIF also doesn't support partial transparency (only fully transparent or fully opaque pixels), unlike PNG which supports full alpha transparency.

Optimising Animated GIFs for Social Media

For Twitter/X, keep animated GIFs under 15MB (15MB is the platform limit). For LinkedIn, keep under 5MB. To reduce GIF size: lower the DPI (72–96 is usually enough for social media), reduce the number of frames by selecting a page range, and use a slightly longer frame delay (which doesn't reduce file size but improves readability). Colors are automatically dithered to fit the 256-color palette.

Why GIF Still Matters in 2026

Despite being nearly 40 years old, GIF remains the most universally compatible animated image format. WebP animation is technically superior but isn't supported in all email clients and older platforms. APNG (Animated PNG) has better quality but lower platform support. GIF's near-universal support makes it the safest choice when compatibility matters more than quality.
