❓ FAQ

What hosting provider does a website use?+
Hosting provider detection works by resolving the domain to an IP, then checking the ISP/ASN data for that IP. Cloud providers like AWS have distinctive ASN names (AMAZON-AES), making them identifiable.
Can a site use multiple hosting providers?+
Yes. The main domain might resolve to Cloudflare (CDN) while the origin server is on AWS. This tool detects the CDN or edge provider if one is in front of the origin — which is increasingly common.
Why does it show Cloudflare instead of the actual host?+
Many sites use Cloudflare as a CDN/proxy, which means all traffic routes through Cloudflare's IPs rather than the origin server. In this case, Cloudflare appears as the "host" because it's the public-facing server.
What is a CDN?+
A CDN (Content Delivery Network) serves website content from servers geographically close to users. Cloudflare, Fastly, Akamai and CloudFront (AWS) are common CDNs. They improve performance and provide DDoS protection.
Is hosting information public?+
Yes. DNS records are public by design, and IP ownership/ASN data is maintained in public registries. This is not private information — it's technical infrastructure data required for the internet to function.
