What colour formats does this converter support?+
This tool converts between: HEX (#RRGGBB), RGB (0–255 per channel), RGBA, HSL (hue 0–360°, saturation and lightness 0–100%), HSV/HSB, CMYK (0–100%), CIE Lab, Decimal, CSS variable, and Swift UIColor. All formats update simultaneously from any input.
What is the difference between HSL and HSV?+
Both use Hue (0–360°) and Saturation (0–100%). HSL (Lightness) uses 50% as the pure colour, with 0% being black and 100% white. HSV (Value) uses 100% as the pure colour at full brightness. HSL is more intuitive for designers; HSV is common in colour pickers and image editing software.
What is WCAG contrast ratio?+
WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) defines contrast ratios for text accessibility. AA standard requires 4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text. AAA requires 7:1 for normal text. This tool shows the contrast of your colour against both white and black backgrounds.
What is CIE Lab colour space?+
CIE Lab (L*a*b*) is a device-independent colour space that represents all visible colours. L is lightness (0–100), a is green–red axis (−128 to 127), b is blue–yellow axis (−128 to 127). It's used in colour science and print production where perceptual uniformity matters.
What are colour harmonies?+
Colour harmonies are combinations of colours that are aesthetically pleasing based on their position on the colour wheel. This tool generates: Complementary (180° opposite), Split-complementary (150° and 210°), and Triadic (120° and 240°) harmonies from your selected colour.
